Toronto Grace
Health Centre Foundation receives
largest donation in its history
TORONTO, Sept. 11 /CNW/ -
Toronto Grace Health
Centre Foundation received its
largest donation in the over 100
year history of The Salvation Army
Toronto Grace Health Centre site.
The $1.9 million donation will have
a profound impact on the Toronto
Grace Health Centre's 119 bed
facility and the medically complex
patients it serves.
The $1.9 million
estate gift by the late John Irwin
reflects the regard in which he held
the Grace. "John was a great
supporter of the Grace Health Centre
and The Salvation Army," said
life-long friend Alan Irwin. "The
Grace was home to both John and his
wife Norah in the final years of
their lives, and they were deeply
moved by the compassionate care
provided to patients." ...Click

19 November 2008 The Salvation Army expands work to
117 countries
The Salvation Army is now officially
at work in 117 countries, with the
most recent openings taking place in
Kuwait and Mongolia.
Kuwait became the 116th country to
fly the Salvation Army flag when
Majors Michael and Teresa Hawley
(from The Salvation Army USA
Southern Territory) took up their
appointments in the Arabic gulf
state in August. They were joined in
September by Lieutenants Robert and Glenis Viera, also from USA
Southern, who were appointed to
Kuwait direct from being
newly-commissioned as Salvation Army
officers.
Much of their ministry, based in the
government-approved Protestant
Compound, is expected to be with the
300-plus Salvationist immigrant
workers who are originally from
India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the
Philippines and Sri Lanka. Contact
with the ex-pat Salvationists was
originally made when International
Emergency Services ran its Iraq
relief programme from Kuwait. This
was followed by intensive research
and visits to the country by the
General's Representative for Global
Evangelisation (Colonel Dick
Krommenhoek) and the International
Secretary for South Asia
(Commissioner Lalkiamlova) in 2007.
On 13 October 2008, Mongolia became
the most recent addition to the list
of countries where The Salvation
Army is officially at work. The new
ministry will be overseen by the
Korea Territory, which has arranged
a special fundraising and prayer
appeal for this missionary endeavour.
Captain Lee, Min-ho and Captain
Chang, Mi-hyun, having already been
to Mongolia for research and
preparation, were charged commence
work for The Salvation Army by
General Shaw Clifton during the
Korea Centenary Congress in October
this year. They departed soon after
for Ulaanbaatar.
The Salvation Army is part of the Christian
Church based on the theory:
"Heart to God, Hand to Man"
The Salvation Army preaches that the teachings of the
Bible are fundamental - dealing with the Creation and the Fall of
Humankind; and that our rebirth and salvation come through faith,
Christ's sacrifice and the Divine grace enabling us to grow in
righteousness through the power of God.
