Welcome to the
Salvation Army in Greece
In brief: Until recently
The Salvation Army had never
been formally established in
Greece. In October 2007, General
Shaw Clifton decided that The
Salvation Army should 'open
fire' in Greece and he appointed
Captains Polis Pantelidis and
Maria Konti-Galinou to commence
the work of The Salvation Army
in Thessaloniki.
The work in
Greece, which began officially
in Thessalonika under Captains
Polis Pantelidis and Maria
Konti-Galinou on 1 October 2007,
is attached to the nearby Italy
Command. Although for many
years there have been many
requests by both individuals and
establishments, The Salvation
Army was never formally
established in Greece for all
these years. In October 2007
General Shaw Clifton decided
that it is now time for the
Salvation Army to be present in
Greece. Captains Polis
Pantelidis and Maria
Konti-Galinou were appointed to
start the work of The Salvation
Army in Thessaloniki.
