"Special Report: Celebration of the 125th anniversary of The Salvation Army in the World"

This is the las week of July and the Month of the Salvation Army is finishing. The days 25th, 26th and 27th were full of activities. In this special report, we give details of all the activities that took place to celebrate the 125 anniversary of our church in the World...God bless the Salvation Army!!!

Friday July 25th

The city of ov Vallparaíso, where our Corps (temple) is located has been chosen by UNESCO as “Humankind’s patrimony”.

This important cultural recognition was the event that united different Christian denominations to celebrate a thanksgiving meeting held in the Catholic Church “La Matriz”.

Of course, The Salvation Army, represented by the Band of Playa Ancha Corps, was present in this meeting, in which it was conmemorated and the persons who attended could remember the 125 years of our church in theworld.

Saturday July 26th

This day had been longed for since the beginning of July. We celebrated the 125 anniversary of the Salvation Army in the world with a special meeting in the Presbyterian Church, in Valparaíso.

In this event, our guests were our Divisional Commander and his wife, Majors Moya; Youth Divissional Secretary and Chief Secretary, Colonel Lieutenant Susan Mc Millan, who preached the message of the Word of God.

Besides, there were important regional authorities, like the Mayor of Valparaíso, Mr. Hernán Pinto and some counsellors of the municipality.

Also, the ecclesiastical authorities of other Christian denominations and religious cults were present, like the Catholic Bishop of Valparaíso, Gonzalo Duarte García de Cortázar.

Pastors of different Evangelical denominations and groups of Community action attended the meetings, like Red Cross and G.O.E.S

Finally, the Band and Timbrel Brigade of our Corps leaded the praise to God to thank Him for this Anniversary.

We thank God for all the persons who could attend and be in this meeting, in which we thanked and praised God for the opportunity He has given us to be part of this church and for the 125 years it hasbeen in the world...and for all the time it will be.

Sunday July 27th

Playa Ancha Corps had two activities this day.

The morning of this day was the time chosen to go to the street and have an Open Air Meeting.

The chosen place was special, Echaurren Square, it was one of the first places The Salvation Army preached, about in 1909, with the Brigadiers Bonet, who were the pioneers of the work in our country.

We had again the opportunity to give the Word of God to the persons who were in that place, in our way, with the sound of the Band and the participation of the Timbrel Brigade. Of course, the Word of God couldn’t be absent, it was given by our Brother Edgardo Díaz.

The evening was the moment for our “Salvationist Festival”. Youth League, Band, Junior Band, Home League, League of Mercy, all had the opportunity to present special numbers to praise and thank God for the anniversary of our church in the world.

Timbrel brigade had a special merit, they presented a special number that was beautiful, but specially significant.

This choreography is based on the march written by J.F. Sousa, who composed it to honour our church, with the simple, but significant tittle “The Salvation Army”, that includes the hymn written by our Founder, “Oh Boundless Salvation”.

This is the end of a whole month of celebration and many activities. We give all the glory to our Lord Jesus, who, with His redeeming death, permitted this church rised to continue fighting that fight of William Booth, the first Salvationist. His words, “I will fight to the end” still inspire us and, with the love to God anf the Holy Gospel, fill us and call us to continue preaching and working for His glory, that’s why...

Glory to the Lord!!! God bless The Salvation Army!!!
