Youth

At Kilbirnie the young people are not the corps of the future but the corps of today. These are some of the things that are available to our young people:

Sunday School

The Sunday School is still going strong and children of all ages are welcome. Children under the age of 7 have their own Sunday School where they learn bible stories and sing songs. Children aged 7 and above come to the senior Sunday School. Here the children also learn about the bible, sing songs and play games. All are welcome at the Sunday School every Sunday at 11.15pm. It is held in the Young Peoples Hall in the Salvation Army on Newton St.

After attending Sunday School many of the young people show their commitment to God and the Salvation Army by becoming Junior Soldiers. All children who are Junior Soldiers are given the opportunity to further learn music. The two main ways that this is done in Kilbirnie is by learning a brass instrument and joining the Y.P. Band and by joining the junior choir in the Salvation Army which is called the Singing Company.

The Y.P. Band

The Young Peoples band offers junior soldiers the chance to learn a brass instrument. The band had been going since 1924 and regularly contribute to worship. The YP Band has a favourite piece of music that uses the following words:

I can do something for Jesus,
He wants a child like me,
I can do something for Jesus,
That something my best work shall be.

The Singing Company

The Singing Company in Kilbirnie is also long running. It was established in 1926 by Robert Irvine. Many leaders have conducted the Singing Company and a high standard has been maintained throughout the years. This is continued with the present leader Kimberly Menagh.
