| INFO | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
MusicThere is a long history of music in the Salvation Army and that is no different at Kilbirnie. The corps generally uses more traditional forms of Salvation Army music and thus the band and songsters are prominent throughout worship. The Band The Senior Band was established in 1912 with Hugh Brennan being the first leader. There have been seven bandmasters at Kilbirnie through to the current bandmaster Jim McIvor (Jnr). The band has taken part in many campaigns and has continually been an effective witness in the community. The Songsters (Choir) The Songsters were established in 1920 under the leadership of Andrew Canning. Like the band the songsters have enjoyed many campaigns throughout the U.K. Along with the band, the songsters had their first campaign out with the U.K. in Easter 2002 when they visited Norway. Most recently the songsters visited Oban where the Commanding Officer is Capt. Connie McCallum who left Kilbirnie for the training college. An excellent weekend was had by both the people of Oban and the songsters. The songsters have been an effective witness in the citadel and in the local community continually throughout the years from the first leader Andrew Canning through to the current leader Andrew Clark. |
