The Salvation Army Immigrant & Refugee Services
You may have noticed something new on the frontpage—our new logo. We are very proud of this new branding symbol for IRS.
The logo incorporates our name, the Salvation Army red shield and the slogan for the Canada & Bermuda Territory “Giving Hope Today” along with a stylized drawing of the globe of the world and people in migration.

We would like to extend a sincere word of thanks to Davin Brown, the graphic artist who designed the logo, in consultation with our staff.
If you like what you see and would be interested in contacting Davin, he can be reached at:

There will be much anticipation as we prepare to enter the new Harbour Light building in 2008. Within this new facility, we will be able to provide a beautiful new space for our clients. Watch for more information as the building progresses.

April 2nd marked a new day for Immigrant and Refugee Services in Toronto. This is the day we kicked off the Hope Rally Program.

This new program is the culmination of a year of research and study into the real needs of newcomers and the barriers which prevent them from becoming full participants in Canadian Society.

Perceived needs of newcomers include learning English, job search techniques, recognition of foreign credentials, and perhaps counseling for trauma experienced in their home country.

Real needs go deeper, are often hidden under the surface, and present real barriers for the newcomer. True engagement requires mutual help to build capacity, to address challenging issues, to re-establish hope to fulfill goals. Leadership is required; long-range thinking and strategic plans are needed; skills must be developed; resources must be acquired and attitudes often have to change.
