Once of the goals of the 2005 strategic planning process was to form a Community Council. The Community Council is a group of volunteers who support Immigrant Refugee Services by providing to the Director administrative advice relating to program, business and policy matters.
The inaugural meeting of the Community Council took place on January 12, 2006. Here are the members of the first Immigrant and Refugee Services Community Council.


SHELLEY STILLER—Chair
Shelley is a housing worker at the World Vision Reception Centre for refugees.Shelley

MAUREEN RINGLEINWYATT

A social worker, Maureen has a background in research, grant writing and fundraising. maureen

SUSAN MCGRATH
Susan is the Director of the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University.susan

MICHELE MILLARD ( picture unavailable)
Michele is the coordinator of the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University. She serves on a variety of community groups advocating for refugee issues.

GOLNAZ EMAM ( picture unavailable)
Golnaz is currently studying law at the University of Toronto. She was a placement student at IRS in the summer of 2005.

BEATRICE NKUNDWA ( picture unavailable)
Beatrice brings a wealth of international experience to our council. She is fluent in four languages.


JENNIFER D’ANDRADE ( picture unavailable)
Jennifer is a public health nurse with the Scarborough Hospital. Jennifer volunteers at the Health Clinic for the uninsured in Scarborough and also at the Red Door Clinic where she and works closely with immigrants and refugees.

DAVID MILOSEVIC ( picture unavailable)

David is a lawyer with a keen interest in working with newcomers to Canada.

GEORGE PATTERSON

George is a Salvation Army Officer and public relations specialist. He represents the divisional Public Relations and development department.George


New Members

DONNA MILLAR
Donna brings almost 30 years of experience as a Salvation Army officer in a variety of appointments, both pastoral and administrative.   Her current assignment includes supporting the churches in our division with resources to effectively minister to the multicultural community around them. Donna also volunteers at IRS as the director of the Choir of All Nations.

RADOSTINA PAVLOVA

Radostina came to Canada from Bulgaria.  She is currently enrolled in the Masters Program in Immigrant and Settlement Studies at Ryerson University and has an MA in Political Science/Ethnic and Area Studies from the University of Toronto.  Radostina is currently on a research internship with Canadian Heritage, Ontario.

WATHIRA KAMOJI

Wathira has an MA in Human Rights from the University of Sussex-Brighton, United Kingdom. She has experience working in program and policy development mainly in relation to migrants at the federal government level as well as with an international organisation.

ANGELA SHINAS

Angela has over 20 years of professional experience in the fields of adult education and literacy, community and social services and settlement. She holds a Masters Degree in Education and a Diploma in Adult Training and Development from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education - University of Toronto, and a TESL certificate from TESL Ontario.
