Why Worry ?

Now that's a question that begs an answer? Who of us has not worried at some time or another. The line of an old song says,"It takes a worried man to sing a worried song, I'm worried now but I won't be worried long." That's easier said then done. We have all had well meaning friends or family members say "don't worry, everything is going to be fine." or "You are a worrier, you have to get control of yourself, stop worrying."

Chuck Swindoll said" Worry pulls tomorrow's cloud over today's sunshine." How much sunshine do we miss when we live under the dark clouds of worry? A bassoon player came up to his conductor, the great Arthur Toscanini and nervously said that he could not reach the high E Flat. Toscanini smiled and replied, " Don't worry, there is no E Flat in your music tonight." Many of our worries are like that-unfounded and unnecessary and yet we worry.

Did not Jesus encourage us not to worry. As a matter of fact He said that we were not to worry.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear... Matthew 6:25
And He then asks the question,

" Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?" Matthew 6:27

Jesus reminded his hearers that as God looks after the birds of the air and meets their needs, He is more than willing to meet the needs of His children. "Are you not much more valuable than they?" He asked. The Psalmist had good words of advice not only for his day but for you and me today, " Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall." Psalm 55:22

Peter in his second letter to the early church said "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7

When you stop and reflect on the supendous fact that the God of the universe, the One who placed the planets in orbit, the One who sees the tiniest sparrow when it falls to earth cares for me as a loving father cares for his child, then I ask my self the question " Why Worry?'
