Popular TV series, ‘The Simpsons’ was the theme for this years annual Salvation Army Junior Adventure Camp held last week at Lorne Guide Centre, Holywood.
The young people aged 7-12 years enjoyed an action packed 5 days of grass sledging, swimming, treasure hunts and the particularly popular ‘wet and slippery’ slope. Bible materials were based around themes from The Simpson’s such as friendship, self-image and loyalty and the children also engaged in craft work, painting small flowerpots with their favourite Simpson’s character and using them to nurture cress grown from seed. They made snowstorms depicting how friendship survives ’whatever the weather’ and made foam spiral booklets which became their prayer journals. Camp ended with a Festival Evening for parents and friends where young people shared the highlights of their week and taught the audience several of the new songs and actions they had learnt during the week.
“It’s been great to see children form all over Ireland meeting together for Adventure Camp. We’ve all had a great time and it’s been fantastic to see children learning about, and experiencing, the love of God in such a caring and fun filled environment” said Captain Rhian Havercroft, Children’s’ Officer for The Salvation Army in Ireland.
