Bandmaster - Ray Todd

Ray Todd was born in Felixstowe, Suffolk in 1937.

 

He became a YP Band member and transferred to the Senior Band in 1952. In 1957 Ray joined the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Horse Guards (The Blues) where he served for 22 years including 20 of these as Principal Cornet. After arriving in London he transferred to the Chalk Farm Corps where he became Principal Cornet and Deputy Bandmaster. Ray also had a 3 year period as Bandmaster.

 

As a Salvation Army Bandsman Ray has been privileged to play in many parts of the world including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Georgia and many parts of Europe.

 

He married Elizabeth in 1961 and they have two children, Lindsey, who is a songster at Norwich Citadel and Garry, who is Bandmaster at the Waverley Temple Corps in Melbourne, Australia. Between them and their spouses they have produced two grandsons each.

 

Ray and Elizabeth now attend Norwich Citadel after moving from Chalk Farm in 1999.

 

 

Executive Officer - Major David Diaper

Major Diaper, with his wife Muriel, have recently retired from full time Officership. Born and educated in Ipswich he has now returned to the town and is a bandsman at Ipswich Citadel Corps.

 

Converted at the age of 14 at Raydon Corps, he has served as Commanding Officer from widely separated locations, from Truro and Newquay to Newcastle City Temple, from Wigan to Hadleigh Temple.

 

Throughout his Officership Major has played with all the corps bands where his appointments have taken him, and as a guest Bb bass player, with Manchester Citadel and Sheffield Citadel bands.

 

Now, in retirement, Major Diaper has been our Executive Officer for the past year.
