About Me

Hi, my name is Yvonne Fitzwater. I am a second year student studying for a Diploma of Counselling through Bethlehem Tertiary Institute in Tauranga.

I live just out of Hawera with my husband and have three young adult children.

As part of my course I am required to do practical counselling in the community. As one of my clients you would be helping me to achieve my qualification.

My Role

As a counsellor, my role is to facilitate self awareness, growth and change with my clients.

If you have something going on in your life that you would like to talk over, I would be happy to listen.

It is not my role to give you a quick fix answer. Rather, it is to work with you and to walk with you to identify your own understanding and answers to your individual situation

Confidentiality and Ethics

All sessions will be treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality. Unless there is a serious safety issue for yourself or others, this will not be broken. In this event, I will endeavour to discuss this with you first.

I work within the guidelines of the Code of Ethics of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.

Aim

My aim is to be committed in providing a service, which is professional, personal, ethical, sensitive and caring.

Training Requirements

As a trainee, I am required to have a NZAC supervisor, whom I see on a regular basis to discuss my learning experience and development. When discussing individual cases your privacy and personal details will remain confidential at all times.

Part of my assessment requires that I video some of my sessions with clients. This will only be done with your permission. The video is only for the purpose of assessing my skills as a trainee counsellor, and are returned to me for destruction once the process of marking is complete.

Any notes that I may take are for my benefit, to remind me of our conversation. Their purpose is to aid me in helping you achieve your goals. You are welcome to a copy of these if you wish.
